Project Power – 4/5 stars

Listen to my voice. Am I lying?

On the streets of New Orleans, a new drug is introduced called Power that, when taken, imbues the person with a superpower for five minutes. The superpowers vary from invisibility to being bulletproof to just blowing up, and you don’t know what power you will get until you take the drug. Art (Jamie Foxx), a former soldier, must work with a cop (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and a teenage dealer (Dominique Fishback) to find the makers of this new drug to find and rescue his daughter who was stolen to create the formula for it.

I thought Project Power was good. It was an interesting concept that seemed like a mashup between Limitless and The Boys. I always enjoy movies about superpowers, and this one was no exception. I thought an interesting twist on the superpower genre was that the powers people got from taking the drug were evolution-based in other animals on Earth. Speed from a cheetah, camouflage from a chameleon, strength from a rhino. Some powers, like fire and ice, it wasn’t clear from which animal those powers came from, but I thought that was a somewhat refreshing take on superpowers.

Even though it may not be as good as something released into theaters, it was definitely entertaining and good enough to see. I’ve been a big fan of Netflix and the other streaming services coming out with original content because it’s something new and free. I looked back and the last movie I saw in the theater was 1917 back in January. So yeah, I’m going to continue supporting these original streaming service movies, because who knows when we’ll actually get to see the theater movies that were supposed to release this year.

Overall, I thought Project Power was entertaining and worth seeing. If you too enjoy superhero/ superpower movies, this is probably right up your ally. I’ll rate this movie 4/5 stars because of its interesting take on superpowers and awesome ending. If you have Netflix, go ahead and check it out.
