Amazon released first teaser trailer for ‘The Wheel of Time’

Amazon has released a teaser trailer for their Wheel of Time series, giving us our first look into the fantasy world.

The series will star Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl, Jack Reacher) as Moiraine, Daniel Henney (Big Hero 6, X-Men Origins: Wolverine) as al’Lan Mandragoran, Josha Stradowski as Rand al’Thor, Marcus Rutherford as Perrin Aybara, Zoë Robins (The Shannara Chronicles) as Nynaeve, Barney Harris as Mat Cauthon and Madeleine Madden (Dora and the Lost City of Gold) as Egwene Al’Vere.

The first season will be comprised of eight episodes, featuring the events that take place in Robert Jordan’s first novel series, The Eye of the World. The show, produced by Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television, has Rafe Judkins (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) serving as showrunner.

For those who are unfamiliar, the book series spans 14 novels and is set in a fantasy world revolving around an eternal battle between the forces of light and darkness. The Aes Sedai, an order of women with the ability to channel the light, search for their champion, The Dragon reincarnated, who is prophesied to uncorrupt male’s magic and bring balance to the world. The Dark One, wielding the power of darkness, is also in search of The Dragon. The series follows Moiraine, one of the Aes Sedai, as she protects a group of five young men and women, one of which may be The Dragon Reborn.

The book series has been praised for its worldbuilding, magic system and characters, with the eighth through the fourteenth book each reaching number one on the New York Times Best Seller list.

The Wheel of Time will be available to stream Nov. 19 on Amazon Prime Video, with the first three episodes releasing together. The remaining episodes will be released weekly until the finale Dec. 24.
