Apex Legend’s New 3v3 game mode is all about high risk, high reward

Respawn Entertainment is releasing Apex Legends: Legacy, described as a “beyond battle royale” on May 4.

Legacy will have a new competitive 3v3 game mode called Arenas where players can test and sharpen their skill. Each arena is a custom tailored map with its own personality. As of now, there are going to be two arena maps: Party Crasher, the ruins of the Mirage Voyage, and Phase Runner, after the teleporter on Olympus.

“The Apex Games are where the Champions are crowned, but the Arenas are where Legends are made,” said Titanfall 2’s Ash, who will host the Arena matches.

Before battling, squads have a buy-phase where they have access to the shop and can purchase weapons, items and abilities. These are purchased with crafting materials, which players are awarded at the start of each round with the amount determined by the quality of their performance. Gear purchased is for a round-to-round basis, meaning that it won’t carry over to the following rounds. Players can choose to spend their materials immediately each round or save for better quality items later in the match.

After the buy phase, the two teams will fight until only one team is left standing. Downed teammates can still be revived, but this game mode has no respawns.

Consumable items can be found in supply bins throughout the arena, and in the middle of the round an airdrop will land containing three weapons. The tier of these weapons will increase as the rounds progress.

Players will fight until one team emerges victorious with three rounds won and a two win margin. Basically, win by finishing 3-0 or two rounds won more than the opposing team. If the two teams reach a 4-4 tie, round 9 is Sudden Death.

In addition to the 3v3 “beyond battle royale” mode, Apex is taking the fight to the skies with its newest Legend, Valkyrie, joining the fray.

Valkyrie is equipped with a high-tech jetpack (salvaged from the remains of her father’s Northstar Titan) that allows her to fly passively, as well as the ability to call down a barrage of missiles on her foes. Justice rains from above!

The game is also (finally) adding bows, with the addition of the Bocek Compound Bow. The versatile bow can be altering using either of its Hop-Up slots. The first, Shatter Caps, has the tip of the arrow split into a shotgun-like area of effect. The second, Deadeye’s Tempo, gives the bow a faster draw time.

So what are you waiting for, Legends? Grab your squad and check out Apex Legends’ newest 3v3 arena mode, the newest jet-pack jumping Legend Valkyrie and the Bocek Bow, all releasing May 4.
