Bill & Ted Face the Music – 3 ½ / 5 stars

Be excellent to each other. And party on, dudes!

Once told that the Wyld Stallyons would write a song that would unite the world, Bill (Alex Winter) and Ted (Keanu Reeves) find themselves middle-aged has-beens still trying to fulfill their destiny. They must go on an adventure and travel through time to find this song before reality itself is unwoven.

Bill & Ted Face the Music was fun and goofy and exactly what it was supposed to be. If you enjoyed the first movie, then you’ll think this film is most outstanding. I personally never saw the second movie, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey, but I didn’t think it was necessary to enjoy Face the Music.

Face the Music was directed by Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest, Red 2, Fun with Dick and Jane) and was released both on demand and in theaters August 28. I thought both Reeves and Winter did a great job reprising their roles 31 years after the original movie was released. The actors seemed to have fun making the movie and it was fun seeing them reunited for an excellent adventure.

(Spoilers) My favorite part of the film is that we actually get to see the foretold song that would unite the world throughout time and space and prevent reality from unraveling. And I must say, it was most outstanding. I also thought it was hilarious seeing the future versions of Bill and Ted ranging from being punk rockers living out of their van, to being unnaturally buff prison inmates, to being bed-ridden 95-year olds (but don’t be fooled. Those old dudes can still rock!)

My least favorite part was when they went to Hell. I found that part a little drawn out, but other than that, I didn’t have any complaints. It was silly but that’s what I went in expecting. I also wasn’t too much a fan of Bill and Ted’s daughters, Billie (Brigette Lundy-Paine) and Thea (Samara Weaving). It was kinda cool seeing the music-loving legacy carry on, but I think the movie could have been just as good without them playing key roles in it.

Overall, I rated Face the Music as 3 ½ / 5 stars. If you’re looking for a goofy movie to make you laugh, look no farther: Bill & Ted Face the Music is the funniest movie this summer!
