BioWare is halting development of Anthem revamp

Christian Dailey, Studio Director of BioWare Austin, announced that BioWare is halting their development on revamping Anthem.

The highly anticipated game released in 2019 to criticism including lack of content and chunkiness. BioWare announced towards the end of 2019 that because of this, they would put in the effort to revamp the game and deliver a game closer to the one they promised, free to those who purchased it.

With the ramifications of COVID-19 slowing production in 2020, BioWare decided to pull the plug on Anthem NEXT, instead focusing their efforts on the next Dragon Age and Mass Effect titles, as well as updates for their MMORPG, Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Dailey stated that while deciding to halt the development of Anthem NEXT wasn’t easy, it won’t only be the fans who will be disappointed.

“It’s also disappointing for the team who were doing brilliant work,” Daily said. “And for me personally, Anthem is what brought me to BioWare.”

Dailey ended the post by thanking the Anthem community for their kindness and encouragement through the difficulty of the past year.
