Bloodshot – 3/5 stars

After he and his wife are kidnapped and murdered, Ray Garrison (Vin Diesel) is awoken by a team of scientists with no memory and equipped with nanites that grant him superhuman abilities. Shortly after, he begins to remember what happened and uses his new abilities to hunt down and take revenge on the man who murdered him and his wife. But it appears that not everything is entirely as it seems.

Bloodshot was released in theaters March 13, and, due to the Coronavirus and not many people going to the movie theater right now, on digital March 24. The film was directed by Dave Wilson, who did the visual effects for Avengers: Age of Ultron  and some video games like Star Wars: The Old Republic, The Division and Mass Effect 2, and features some familiar faces such as Eiza González as K.T., Sam Heughan as Jimmy Dalton, and (the always misunderstood good guy) Guy Pearce as Dr. Harting. I also really enjoyed Lamorne Morris as Wilfred Wigans as the comedic relief. He was hilarious on screen with Vin.

I checked this movie out on a whim and it was OK. Enjoyable, but not great. I thought the movie had an intriguing story idea and was impressed with its Matrix-like simulation scenes, but the action was kind of hard to follow and a little over-the-top, yet stale. When we first begin to see the extent of Bloodshot’s powers, I thought he was insanely overpowered. Granted, I was unfamiliar with the character before seeing the movie, but with nanites in his blood, he had almost instant healing and regeneration, super strength, he could use his nanites to hack into databases, shut down electronics, and search the web to learn a skill almost instantaneously (like how to fly an airplane).

Overall, the movie was enjoyable and I’d rate it 3/5 stars. Probably something I won’t ever see again, but if you enjoy overly action-packed superhero movies, or just Vin Diesel movies, and are bored at home, consider checking this one out.
