Everything you need to know about Returnal, the latest PS5 exclusive

Returnal is a third person rogue-like shooter with psychological horror elements, releasing  exclusively to the PlayStation 5.

The game is set in a futuristic sci-fi setting where players play as Selene (voiced by Jane Perry), a space pilot who crash lands on the shape shifting world Atropos. Selene is equipped with her space suit and high-tech weapons and must survive the ruins of an ancient civilization to escape. But, stuck in a time-loop, each time Selene dies, she is forced to restart her journey through the ever-changing world.

Returnal was developed by Housemarque and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, making this the first major PS5 exclusive of 2021.

The game may not always be an exclusive, however. Returnal may follow in other PlayStation exclusive’s footsteps, such as Horizon Zero Dawn or Days Gone, and become available on PC at a later date.

So far the game has been well-received, scoring 86% with Metacritic and 8/10 from IGN, receiving praise for its story and the rogue-like challenge of having to restart from the beginning after each death with a whole new set of obstacles to overcome.

The game released April 30 and is available to purchase for $69.99 on the PlayStation store or on disc. Check out the official trailer below.
