First look at ‘Toy Story’ spin-off ‘Lightyear’

Disney and Pixar have released a first look at Lightyear, the upcoming origin story of Buzz Lightyear.

The movie will follow how the young test pilot became the famous Space Ranger that inspired the popular action figure.

Check out the teaser below.

The movie stars Chris Evans voicing the titular role. The rest of the voicing cast, including for the roles of Emperor Zurg, Alicia Hawthorne, Sox and Qurinside, have yet to be announced. Disney clarified that Evans is not replacing Tim Allen in voicing the character, but that Evans is voicing the human character that inspired the toy, voiced by Allen.

Acting as a spin-off of the Toy Story franchise, Lightyear will be Pixar’s 26th film. The movie will be directed by Angus MacLane, known for co-directing Finding Dory and his work on the animation of The Incredibles and WALL·E. Attached as executive producer is Pete Docter, writer of Toy Story, Monsters, Inc., Up and Inside Out.

Lightyear will release June 17, 2022.
