HBO Max released clip for ‘The Suicide Squad’ spin-off ‘Peacemaker’ diving into character’s first mission

HBO Max has released an exclusive clip from the upcoming spin-off series, Peacemaker. The series will reportedly take place after the events in The Suicide Squad and will explore his origin and how he became the character who strives to achieve peace at all costs.

Check out the clip below.

From the clip, it appears that Peacemaker was recently recruited by Amanda Waller and was assigned to his first team for a mission. The team meets at a public restaurant and, naturally, Peacemaker not-so-subtly drives up in his red and white striped Mercury Comet and is wearing his costume so it fits comfortably for the mission ahead.

Peacemaker is the first extended DCEU television series and is being helmed by James Gunn. Gunn wrote all eight episodes of the series during the COVID-19 pandemic before HBO Max ordered Peacemaker straight-to-series Sep. 2020. Gunn also directed five of the episodes himself, remaining involved with the project through-and-through.

“[Peacemaker’s] not an evil person, he’s just a bad guy,” Gunn said in an interview with Variety. “He seems sort of irredeemable in the film. But I think there’s more to him. We didn’t get a chance to known him [in “The Suicide Squad”] in the way we get to know some of the other characters. And so that’s what this whole show is about.”

The series is being produced by Gunn’s Troll Court Entertainment and The Safran Company, alongside Warner Bros. Television.

John Cena will reprise his role as the titular character, along with the series introducing Steve Agee as John Economos, Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Christopher Heyerdahl as Captain Locke, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, Chukwudi Iwuji as Clemson Murn, Nhut Le as Judomaster, Robert Patrick as Auggie Smith and Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase.

Peacemaker will premiere Jan. 2022 on HBO Max. Additional footage and information about the show is set to release at DC’s digital streaming event, DC FanDome, on Oct. 16.
