HBO releases teaser for ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel ‘House of the Dragon’

HBO Max released a teaser trailer for their upcoming Game of Thrones spin-off series, House of the Dragon.

The series takes place 200 years before the events in Game of Thrones and is based on George R.R. Martin’s novel Fire & Blood. House of the Dragon will follow the Targaryen Dynasty and the events that lead to the Targaryen civil war known as the “Dance of the Dragons.”

Check out the teaser below.

The teaser features a Valerian steel sword, familiar platinum blonde hair, sword fights, jousting, an even more over-the-top Iron Throne, but surprisingly no dragons. Perhaps they don’t want to give too much away just yet.

The series stars Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen, Emma D’Arcy as his daughter Rhaenyra Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen, Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower, Steve Toussaint as Corlys Velaryon “The Sea Snake,” Eve Best as Rhaenys Velaryon, Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria, Fabien Frankel as Criston Cole.

House of the Dragon is being co-created by Martin and Ryan J. Condal, who is known for his work on Rampage, Hercules, and Colony. Condal will also serve as the series’ showrunner alongside Miguel Sapochnik, who is making his return to the world of Game of Thrones having previously directed multiple critically acclaimed episodes such as “Hardhome”, “Battle of the Bastards” and ”The Winds of Winter.” Composer Ramin Djwadi is also returning to score the series.

House of the Dragon’s first season will have ten episodes and will be released on HBO Max in 2022.
