The film is written and directed by Gunn, and features an all-star cast with Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnamin, Viola Davis and Jai Courtney reprising their roles from the 2016 film. New additions include Idris Elba, Michael Rooker, Nathan Fillion, Sylvester Stallone, Peter Capaldi, Alice Braga, Pete Davidson, Sean Gunn and John Cena. Taika Waititi will also play an unknown role in the film.

The Suicide Squad is not a sequel to the 2016 film but a “total reboot,” according to DCEU producer Peter Safran in an interview with JoBlo. “It’s everything you would hope for from a James Gunn script,” he said.

Gunn, known for his success in introducing relatively unknown characters, is building off the foundation of the first movie in hopes to set it up to be more successful.

The same day the trailer was released, the actors of the upcoming film posted images on Twitter of their respective characters along with the caption “Don’t get too attached,” leaving an ambiguous idea of what to expect from the movie.

The film is set to Aug. 6 on HBO Max and in theaters. Are you ready?
