Jeremy Irvine in talks to play Alan Scott in HBO Max’s ‘Green Lantern’ series

Jeremy Irvine is in talks to play Alan Scott in HBO Max’s original series Green Lantern.

Alan Scott is a fictional character created by Martin Nodell and made his comic book debut in 1940 in All-American Comics 16. He is the first character to bear the name of Green Lantern and uses the abilities granted by a magical ring called the Starheart to fight evil.

Irvine is known for his role in Spielberg’s Warhorse, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, and most recently, Treadstone.

He will be joining Finn Wittrock (American Horror Story, Unbroken, The Big Short) who has already been cast to play the series lead Guy Gardner.

According to Variety, HBO Max ordered 10 one-hour episodes of Green Lantern. The story will span multiple decades and galaxies, beginning in 1941 with Alan Scott to 1984 with the cocky Guy Gardner and half-alien Bree Jarta. It is currently unknown which other Lanterns will make an appearance in the series but it is likely that other well-known characters will join the story.

The series is being co-written and executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Seth Grahame-Smith and Marc Guggenheim, with Grahme-Smith set as the showrunner. Green Lantern will certainly not be Berlanti’s first dip into the superhero pool, with experience as executive producer on The Flash, Arrow, Doom Patrol, Superman and Lois and most other DC shows currently in production. Guggenheim and Grahame-Smith also have experience in the hero business with Guggenheim having served as an executive producer of Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Grahame-Smith co-writing The Lego Batman Movie.

In addition to Green Lantern, other DC shows in development for HBO Max include Peacemaker, a spin-off of the new Suicide Squad movie starring John Cena with James Gunn writing; a spinoff of Matt Reeves’ The Batman following the Gotham City Police Department; and Justice League Dark being developed by J.J. Abrams.
