‘Mortal Kombat’ Red Band Trailer Released Promising Bloodshed

The official trailer for Mortal Kombat has been released, along with the confirmation that the film will definitely be rated R. While this may have been expected, the confirmation is nice because it would be hard to imagine a PG-13 Mortal Kombat living up to the legacy of the franchise.

From fresh-off-the-block director Simon McQuoid and writers Greg Russo and Dave Callaham (Wonder Woman 1984), Mortal Kombat is scheduled to release April 16. This film is the next in HBO Max’s 2021 straight-to-streaming movie line up following Godzilla vs. Kong at the tail end of March.

The trailer includes appearances of characters such as Sonya Blade, Kano, Liu Kang, Jax, Kung Lao, Raiden and fan favorites Sub-Zero and Scorpion. It also including some of the game’s iconic lines such as “Get over here!” and “Finish him!

It will be interesting to see how the reboot compares to the 1995 movie and if it lives up to the game’s legacy. Decide for yourself and tune in April 16 on HBO Max or check it out in theaters. Check out the trailer below.
