Netflix releases first heart-pounding trailer for ‘The Guilty’ starring Jake Gyllenhaal

Netflix has released the first trailer for ‘The Guilty,’ an upcoming film arriving on the streaming platform this October.

The movie stars Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler, Brokeback Mountain) as Joe Baylor, a police officer demoted to a 911 dispatch operator who receives a call from an abducted woman.

The movie is being directed by Antoine Fuqua, who has worked with Gyllenhaal previously in the 2015 sports drama Southpaw. Fuqua is also known for directing Training Day, The Equalizer and The Magnificent Seven (2016). Behind the screenplay for the film is Nic Pizzolatto, known for The Magnificent Seven (2016) and True Detective.

In unnamed roles, the movie will also star Ethan Hawke (Training Day, Gattaca), Paul Dano (There Will Be Blood), Riley Keough (Mad Max: Fury Road), Peter Sarsgaard (Shattered Glass) and Bill Burr (The King of Staten Island).

The Guilty will act as a remake of the 2018 Danish film of the same name, which Gyllenhaal acquired the rights to in Dec. 2018. In Sep. 2020, Deadline reported that Netflix acquired the worldwide rights to the film for $30 million.

The Guilty will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival Sep. 11, then have a limited release Sep. 24 before premiering on Netflix Oct. 1.
