New Batman and Superman animated series ordered by HBO Max and Cartoon Network

New Batman and Superman animated projects have been ordered straight-to-series by HBO Max and Cartoon Network, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Batman series will be called Batman: Caped Crusader and is being developed by Bruce Timm, one of the visionaries behind Batman: The Animated Series; Matt Reeves, director of the upcoming movie The Batman; and J.J. Abrams, and is described as a “reimagining of the Batman mythology.”

“The series will be thrilling, cinematic and evocative of Batman’s noir roots, while diving deeper into the psychology of these iconic characters,” Abrams, Timm and Reeves in a statement.

This will act as Timm’s return to the DC animated universe, which he helped launch in 1992 with the success of Batman: The Animated Series. Since, Timm has contributed to Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, Batman Beyond, Justice League and many other DC animated projects.

“Batman: The Animated Series was a masterpiece that shaped the perception of the character for an entire generation of fans,” said Sam Register, president of Warner Bros. Animation. “We are bringing together three master storytellers in J.J., Matt and Bruce – each with their own intuitive understanding and affection for the character – to create a new series that will continue in the same groundbreaking legacy.”

The Superman animated series will be called My Adventures with Superman and is set to star Jack Quaid (The Boys) voicing Superman and Clark Kent.

The series is a kids-and-family animated series that follows the exploits of a young Clark Kent, Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen as an investigative reporting team for the Daily Planet. Here is a first look at My Adventures with Superman below:
