New ‘Matrix Resurrections’ mind-bending trailer takes us deeper down the rabbit hole

Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first trailer for The Matrix Resurrections.

The fourth installment will feature the return of Keanu Reeves as Neo, Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity and Jada Pinkett Smith as Niobe, as well as the addition of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman), Jessica Henwick (Game of Thrones), Jonathan Groff (Mindhunter), Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother), Christina Ricci (Speed Racer) and Ellen Hollman (Spartacus) in unnamed roles.

The movie will be directed by Lana Wachowski, also making her return to the franchise. Wachowski will co-write alongside David Mitchell (Cloud Atlas, Sense8) and Aleksandar Hemon (Sense8).

Check out the trailer below.

From the trailer, it looks like Neo has lost his memory and is once again trapped within the Matrix. He takes blue pills, only catching glimpses of his past when he’s dreaming and thinks he may be crazy. But all this changes when a man, resembling a young Morpheus, offers him a red pill that will open his eyes to the truth.

The movie is a joint production by Village Roadside Pictures and Venus Castina Productions and will act as a continuation of the story from The Matrix (1999).

The Matrix Resurrections will release Dec. 22 in theaters and on HBO Max for streaming.
