PlayStation released 14 min of new gameplay from ‘Horizon Forbidden West’

In their latest State of Play event, PlayStation revealed 14 minutes of never-before-seen footage for Horizon Forbidden West.

Acting as a sequel to the first game, Forbidden West takes place six months after Zero Dawn, and follows Aloy traveling West to find the source of a mysterious plague that kills everything it infects. There, she will discover uncharted lands with strange new tribes and deadly machines.

In the trailer, Aloy stumbles upon a group of villagers who have been devastated from an ambush by raiders. The sole survivor sends Aloy on her way to find and save her friend, Erend, from the raiders who seem to possess the ability to control the machines.

The gameplay features a new tropical jungle setting (which is actually the overgrown ruins of San Francisco), in addition to a breathtaking underwater ecosystem to explore.

It also shows that Aloy is equipped with some new gadgets to help traverse the world, including a grapple arrow to reach tall heights and close gaps, and a holographic hang glider to float harmlessly to the ground. And, similar to the first game, players can sneak up to certain mechanical creatures and hack them, turning them into friendly mounts.

The gameplay footage from the trailer was captured using a PS5, so this should give an idea of how to expect the game to run and feel on player’s consoles.

Although no specific date has been announced, Horizon Forbidden West is set to release 2021 for PS4 and PS5.
