Robert Downey Jr. and Matt Damon have joined Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’

Actors Robert Downey Jr. and Matt Damon have joined the cast of Christopher Nolan’s next film, Oppenheimer.

They actors will be joining Cillian Murphy, playing J. Robert Oppenheimer, and Emily Blunt, playing his wife Katherine Oppenheimer. Murphy has worked previously with Nolan in Inception, Dunkirk and Batman Begins. Downey will join as Lewis Strauss and Damon as Lt. Gen. Leslie Groves.

J. Robert Oppenheimer was a theoretical physicist credited as “father of the atomic bomb” due to his contributions to The Manhattan Project during WWII. 

The movie will be written and directed by Christopher Nolan, and is based on the Pulitzer Prize- winning novel American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer, by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin. Scoring the film will be Ludwig Göransson, known for his contributions to Tenet, The Mandalorian and Black Panther.


While further details have yet to be revealed, Oppenheimer is currently scheduled to be released July 21, 2023 in theaters. Here’s to hoping it doesn’t bomb.
