What I watched in July 2020

At the end of June, I made a list of all the new arrivals coming to each streaming service this month. I thought it’d be cool to make a follow up post about what movies and TV shows I checked out and my thoughts on them.

Starting with Netflix, I watched Schindler’s List, which was good. I thought it did a great job showing the chaos and brutality of the Holocaust. While it was good and I’m glad I saw it, it’s not one I would revisit anytime soon. I also watched The Karate Kid Part 2 in prep for Cobra Kai season 3, and I was pretty disappointed with it. Maybe my expectations were too high, but the first movie was much better than the second, both in story and actual Karate. The second movie was too slow and focused more on Mr. Myagi’s past in Okinawa. I have not yet gotten to trying out Warrior Nun, but did watch the first episode of Cursed. I’d highly recommend skipping out on Cursed. While I’m usually a fan of everything Arthurian legend, this show was just bad. This was probably the biggest disappointment recently. On a higher note, I really enjoyed The Old Guard, with Charlize Theron as an immortal warrior whose weapons of choice are a gun in one hand and a battle ax in the other. If you missed it, check out my review of it here.

For Hulu, I watched the new Palm Springs movie, and it was pretty good. It had a refreshing take on the “time-loop” story and was pretty funny. Although more mature than I thought, this one was worth the watch and I’d recommend it.

For Amazon Prime, I watched season two of Hanna and really enjoyed it. If you haven’t seen this show yet, do yourself a favor and check it out. It’s only 8 episodes per season and it is so easy to keep watching, which to me, is one of the indicators of a good, quality show. I also finally got to see Knives Out, one that I missed when it came to theaters last Thanksgiving, and it was just a good ol’ Whodunit murder mystery.

This is what I watched this month, and for the most part, I think I did pretty good. On a scale, Cursed was most disappointing, Palm Springs and The Old Guard were both good and I’d recommend them, and Hanna was awesome and I’d highly recommend it.

I just thought it’d be nice to go back over what I watched this month and what I would or would not recommend. Stay tuned for an August 2020 streaming service arrivals post in the next few days.
